Elder Abuse Awareness Walk, Stroll & Roll to be held at Triad Park
Thousands of incidents of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of elderly persons are reported every year in North Carolina. Sadly, studies show that many cases of elder abuse are never reported to authorities.
The Piedmont Triad Regional Council Area Agency on Aging is working to bring awareness to elder abuse by organizing the Elder Abuse Awareness Walk, Stroll & Roll on Saturday, June 18, at Triad Park.
After a two-year pause due to the pandemic, the Walk, Stroll & Roll returns and everyone is invited to join the Triad’s fight to end elder abuse. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the Walk, Stroll & Roll will kick off at 10:30 a.m. There is no cost to participate, and free t-shirts will be available first come, first-served.
The Walk is a family-friendly event with music, free t-shirts, free personal document shredding, health screenings, a veteran’s recognition, food, and information about protecting elders against abuse.
Triad Park is located at 9652 West Market St. in Kernersville. To register or learn more about the Walk, Stroll & Roll, visit www.ptrc.org/walk or call 336-904-0300.
If you suspect that someone you know is at risk or is the victim of elder abuse, you must report the suspected abuse to Adult Protective Services at your local Department of Social or Human Services. If you are concerned that an older or disabled adult is in immediate danger, call 911 right away. An elder abuse victim may be your neighbor, friend, or family member.
