Elite hurdler joins the Rams Track and Field coaching staff
Paula Salmon

Coach Antonio Wells has added Paula Salmon to the cross country/indoor/outdoor track and field staff.
“I’m super excited to have Coach Paula Salmon joining us!” said head coach Antonio Wells. “She will bring her world class sprinting and hurdling experience to our program. Coach Salmon has the big stage mindset to match her talent. She was a valuable part of those historical teams at North Carolina A&T as a student athlete, so she knows what it takes to win. I look forward to her getting in and growing as a coach and pushing these student athletes forward.”
Salmon brings a wealth of experience and accolades to her new role. She earned her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from North Carolina A&T State University in May 2021.
During her collegiate career, Salmon established herself as a standout hurdler, earning multiple All-America honors in the 100-meter hurdles. Notably, she was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s (CAA) Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year in 2023.
Salmon’s transition from a distinguished athlete to a coaching role at Winston-Salem State University reflects her dedication to fostering athletic excellence and her passion for developing student-athletes.
“Holding this position and being part of the Ramily means so much to me,” said Paula Simon. ”It gives me the opportunity to help young women reach their full potential and achieve greatness.”
Salmon is also a personal trainer with NCSF, where she recommended modifications of exercises to help participants avoid injuries. She also enforced safe exercise equipment use while reminding members of rules and guiding techniques.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Salmon has demonstrated a strong commitment to coaching and mentoring. She served as an assistant camp coach with Right at School in June 2023, where she mentored youth athletes, promoting positive behavior and skill development.
