The Laymen’s League of Mount Zion Baptist Church is sponsoring its ninth annual NFL (Network, Fellowship and Learn) Father & Son Breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 – 11 a.m. in the File-Goodwin Center. The theme is “Encouraging our Boys and Young Men to be Righteous.”

William “Bill” Hayes, director of Athletics at Winston-Salem State University, will be the featured speaker. Hayes is a pioneer and trendsetter in the world of athletics and far beyond. His career in college sports spans 37-plus years.

This year’s NFL Father and Son breakfast will again feature enjoyable fellowship for fathers, father-figures, mentors, sons, men and boys. A Southern-styled breakfast will be served at the event, which will offer a mutual exchange of expressions and brotherly love. The event was founded by Ernest Squire, the current vice-president of Mount Zion’s Laymen League. Squire grew up in a fatherless home but was influenced by many strong and positive male mentors. The breakfast was started as a way to explore and discuss ways to improve the quality of guidance of African American men on the family. Past topics discussed at the breakfast include, “Guiding our Boys to Make Godly Choices,” “Encouraging Your Children to Achieve Beyond Your Historical Horizons,”Preparing Yourself for Fatherhood,” “The Importance of Discipline” and “How to Manage Your Financial Resources.”

Tickets are available for a $7 donation at Mount Zion, 950 File St., where Dr. Serenus T. Churn is the pastor. Call 336-722-2325 for more information.
