First Waughtown celebrates College Day

First Waughtown Baptist Church (FWBC) recognized 14 high school and college graduates during its virtual College Day service on Sunday, June 13. The annual observance celebrated the academic achievements of the following scholars:

High school graduates:

*Chandler Beatty graduated from Parkland High School and will attend Forsyth Technical Community College in the fall. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Beatty.

*Jamon Eubanks graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School and plans to attend trade school. He is the son of Ms. Patrice Hall.

 *I’zaah Gray-Jones also graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School and will attend the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City  He is the son of Ms. Joël Jones.

*Joshua Martin graduated from Havelock High School in Havelock, N.C., and will attend Craven Community College. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Martin, Jr.

*Aniyah Pope is a graduate of Parkland High School and will attend North Carolina Central University. She is the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Robert Pope, Sr.

*JaQuez Williams graduated from West Forsyth High School and will attend North Carolina Central University. He is the son of Ms. Sheri Fryer

University graduates:

*Malcolm Beamon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Deboy Beamon, graduated from North Carolina Central University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and a minor in business administration.

 *Ashlee L. Canty received her Ph.D. in curriculum studies from DePaul University in Chicago. She is the daughter of Mrs. Lila Canty.

*Tmarko Chandler, son of Mr. Charles Grant and Ms. Lawana Robinson, graduated from Pfeiffer University with a bachelor’s degree in sports management.

*Shatoria Coleman received the J.D. degree from the North Carolina Central University School of Law with certification in alternative dispute resolution. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cory Wardlow.

*Min. Cynthia Dixon graduated with the D.Min. degree from the Emory University Candler School of Theology. She is married to Min. Jarrod Dixon.

*Diarra Hedrick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hedrick, graduated from Mars Hill University with a bachelor’s degree in biology.  

*Adrianne Mitchell received a bachelor’s degree in food and nutritional sciences (human nutrition pre-med) from North Carolina A&T State University and will be a first-year medical student at the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine in the fall. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell.

*Min. Robin Featherstone received the D. Min. degree from Charlotte Christian College & Theological Seminary. She is married to Min. Josephé Featherstone.

Dr. Dennis W. Bishop, senior pastor of FWBC, delivered the morning message from Matthew 14:25-33, the biblical account of Peter walking on the water. Dr. Bishop commended the graduates for being risktakers who accepted varied challenges in the pursuit of their academic achievements. He encouraged them to continue taking risks to make the world a different and better place to impact the lives of others and exhorted them to recognize and acknowledge the continuing need for a Savior.

The church staged a drive-thru event Thursday, June 17, to give each graduate a congratulatory gift. The grads then took pictures in front of a banner displaying their names and educational institutions.
