Have a need for volunteers, but don’t know how to reach them?

This was the challenge that led to the creation of HandsOn Northwest NC. Founded with grants from Kate B. Reynolds Foundation,  the Winston-Salem Foundation, and the United Way, HandsOn Northwest NC was formed to build the capacity of local nonprofits and to increase volunteering by empowering volunteers to make a difference in our community through their service.

Amy Lytle became its Executive Director in 2007 and since that time has guided HandsOn as it increased its influence in our community. HandsOn created a volunteer matching program that allows organizations to post service opportunities and volunteers to find opportunities that match their time, talent, and interest. HandsOn NWNC covers not only Forsyth, but also Surry, Yadkin, Davie, Davidson and Stokes counties.

HandsOn also serves as the sponsor organization for the RSVP Program (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program), a national initiative that encourages people 55 and older to volunteer by providing special benefits, such as mileage reimbursement. They also help corporations organize their volunteer initiatives and are involved with the Institute For Public Engagement at Wake Forest University.
Additional projects include promoting volunteerism on the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service and helping to organize Christmas for the City.
