When and where were you born?

October 11 1953 in Winston- Salem NC -(Happy Hill Gardens)

What did you want to be growing up?

Growing up I just  wanted to be a family man who could take care of my kids. I never really thought about being somebody other than a good father and husband. I just wanted to make it out of high school until  I began to play sports. I think I am a good father and husband.

Did you have an after-school job?

I never had an after school job because I had no time for a job.

What extra-curricular activities were you involved in?

I played football,basketball, baseball and tennis.

Did you go to college or trade school or do military service?

I graduated from NCCU in 1976.

Who were your heroes when you were a child?

My mom was my hero when I was a child. She raised me and my two brothers as a single parent.

What major historical events do you remember from your childhood?

I remember Ali vs. Liston on the radio and the first space walk.

Name one person in your life that has made the biggest influence. Why?

One of my high school coaches, Virgil Simpson, was the biggest influence in my life. His influence landed me in Durham, NC with a basketball scholarship.

What activities do you participate in that keeps you physically active?

Little volunteering at the Piedmont Senior Games

I coach basketball  and softball for the Special Olympics I am also on the sports management team for the Special Olympics. I am a volunteer and a participant in the Senior Games, as well as a member of the Senior Games Steering committee.  I go to the YMCA three or four times a week.

What activities do you participate in which keep you intellectually challenged?

I keep intellectually challenged by reading and traveling.

What advice for healthy aging do you have for the next generation of seniors?

My advice for healthy aging is to stay active and eat right.

Is there anything that scares you about the future?

Nothing really scares me about the future. I cannot do anything about it anyway.

What do you like about being your age?

I like being alive and able to see, and be a part of life at my age.

If you were granted two wishes, what would they be?

I wish to be around to see my grandchildren grow up and to find a cure for cancer.

Anything else you would like to add?

Senior Games has been a lot of fun for me, as a participant and as the coordinator.
