Members of the Forsyth AARP chapter recently met to engage in strategic planning for the 2025 service year. During the planning session, new officers for the 2025-2027 term of office were introduced and installed by Dr. Althea Taylor Jones, Forsyth AARP chapter past president.
New officers for the 2025-26 year are:
*President: SandraKay Lawson Crump
*Vice President: Matilda Phillips
*Secretary: Alberta Powell
*Treasurer: Michael James
The group also discussed plans for their monthly programs, community service projects and other initiatives. A tentative agenda was approved and can be viewed on the chapter website at www.aarpforsyth.wordpress.com. The document can also be downloaded for future reference.
Chapter meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, except July and August, at Senior Services, 2895 Shorefair Drive, at 11 a.m.
The Feb. 11 program is entitled “Love Thyself: Self-Love,” and will be presented by Dr. Althea Taylor Jones. The program will focus on taking care of YOUrself, to be able to care for others. The older we get, the more important focusing on our self-care becomes, especially, if we are struggling to make ends meet, and/or serving as the primary caregiver for a family member. It is of paramount importance that as we enter our golden years, we exert positive energy and effort to enhance our emotional, mental and physical health, to avoid the negative challenges imposed by a plethora of stressors.
Loving oneself is considered by some to be quite narcissistic (vain, self-absorbent, or egotistical). However, positive feelings can be enhanced by taking time to focus on what is good for YOU, as well as what makes YOU happy!
The public is invited to attend monthly meetings, unless otherwise indicated. National AARP members are strongly encouraged to join the Forsyth Chapter where you can make new friends and stay active while participating in community service projects.
