Free day out for caregivers

The Shepherd’s Center recognizes the compassionate care that those taking care of spouses, family members or friends provide to their loved ones and the emotional toll that this places on caregivers. To give them a much-needed break, they are providing a free day off for caregivers to give them a chance to relax and recharge their emotional batteries.

On Tuesday, April 12, from10 a.m.-2 p.m., family caregivers are invited to join other caregivers for a trip to Dewberry Farm in Kernersville. In addition to providing a break from daily caregiving duties, caregivers will have the opportunity to walk around the farm, see the beautiful spring flowers, and enjoy a relaxing lunch outdoors.

From their website: “Dewberry Farm sits on 20 acres of the original 100-acre family farm, purchased by Ash Johnson back in 1925. The farm was originally used for tobacco and sugarcane, with the sugarcane being used to create molasses for the local community. The current farm house was built in 1989 and the barn that sits below was built entirely from trees found and milled on the property.” Find out more at

Group transportation is available. Deadline for registration is April 5. Limited respite care available.

This event is provided by the It’s All About You Caregiver Program, sponsored by The Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem, ComForCare Home Care, Trinity Presbyterian Church, and the Family Caregiver Support Program.
