Honors for WSSU tennis players
The Winston-Salem State University tennis program earned a pair of weekly honors last week from the CIAA.
Sophomore Jonathan Aubrey and senior Bianka Locklear were named CIAA Players of the Week after a strong week of play by both student-athletes.
Aubrey took home the honor after posting a 3-0 record last week. He took a pair of wins against NCAA Division II Atlantic Region opponents when he posted singles wins against West Liberty and Shepherd at Spring Break Tennis in Hilton Head, S.C. Aubrey also posted a CIAA singles win against Lincoln (Pa.) at the CIAA Cluster hosted by Lincoln (Pa.). His only other singles match of the week was unfinished.
Not to be outdone, Locklear led the Lady Rams to a 4-1 record with a pair of shutout wins over CIAA opponents. In singles play, Locklear posted a 3-1 record. In addition to a pair of CIAA singles wins over Livingstone and Virginia Union, she also recorded a singles win over fellow NCAA Division II Atlantic Region foe, Shepherd.
Since the honors, the Lady Rams have racked up wins over Fayetteville State and Lincoln (Pa.). The men will return to action on March 30, when the team hosts Davis & Elkins.
