Former “American Idol” contestant Tiquila Wilson is slated to be a celebrity judge for a competition to pick singers to perform the national anthem at Winston-Salem Dash home games this coming season.

The competition, sponsonored by the Winston-Salem Journal, will be held Saturday, March 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the lower level of Hanes Mall below the food court.

Wilson, 24, advanced through the “American Idol” preliminary round held at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds. She then appeared on the Jan. 29 episode of the hit Fox singing reality show. Her performance of Adele’s “Someone Like You” earned high praise from the show’s judges – Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban. She impressed the trio enough to earn a spot in the show’s “Hollywood Round.” Wilson announced last week that she was leaving the show on her on volition.

Only 150 entrants will be guaranteed auditions for the national anthem competition. Winners will have the opportunity to sing at one of the Dash’s 70 scheduled home games.

The top five highest-scoring contestants will be eligible for the grand prize, a second singing opportunity before the Dash’s Fourth of July game, one of the most popular dates on the Dash’s calendar each year. Grand prizes also include four Dash hats and four Founders Club tickets.

The Dash’s season begins on Thursday, April 3 at BB&T Ballpark.
