Jones wins Salem Academy award
Salem Academy senior Jordan Jones was selected as the 2013 recipient of the Elisabeth Oesterlein Award.
The Oesterlein Award is named in honor of Salem’s first teacher. Candidates are nominated by members of the Salem community—faculty, staff and fellow students—and each nominee must compete against other truly outstanding seniors. Among the criteria are: attend Salem all four years of high school; make a notable contribution to the quality of life at Salem and exemplify quality leadership; and be conscientious and diligent in the pursuit of academic excellence, attaining at least a 3.0 average overall.
During her four years at the Academy, Jones has excelled both in and out of the classroom. Her academic achievements have earned her membership in the Mu Alpha Theta mathematics honor society and the National Spanish Honor Society, the National Spanish Exam Bronze Level award and the NCHSAA Scholar Athlete Award. A talented actress, she has performed in Salem Academy Theatre productions all four years, is a member of the North Carolina Black Repertory Company’s Teen Theater Ensemble and interned with the Phyllis Wheatley Repertory Theater for Youth.
