Letters to the Editor: Mayoral contest
To the Editor:
I read with great interest your editorial, “Joines For Mayor.” In the past, some readers criticized the editorials of The Chronicle. Few people, however, can criticize this editorial.
The editor succinctly laid out his reasons for endorsing Mayor Joines in the upcoming election. I am sure the editor thought long and hard before he made his decision. The main point that derived from the editorial was “He (Mayor Joines) made inclusion a key cornerstone of his leadership and he has urged others, including corporate leaders, to follow suit.”
In fact, there are some elements in the community that believe Mayor Joines has been too inclusive. Of course, WE know what THEY mean by that. For a politician to be successful he/she must represent all of the (constituents). As a voter, I deal in facts and not the supposition, conjecture or half-truths that one candidate has alleged against Mayor Joines.
I hope other voters will also examine the opponent’s qualifications for running for mayor, and (then) voters will also agree with the position that the newspaper has taken in its endorsement of Mayor Joines in the upcoming mayoral race.
