Chronicle Staff Report

The work of Winston-Salem artist Ricky Needham will be supersized as part of the +Giant Art Project, a public art installation in the West End neighborhood.

The Project is designed to promote the work of local artists and Winston-Salem, which is known as the City of Arts and Innovation.

Needham will be the third artist to have his work displayed billboard-size on an exterior wall of The Variable, which is located on the corner of Reynolda Road and Canal Drive. Selection of works for the +Giant Art Project is competitive.

The Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County contributed a $10,000 grant in late 2011 to support the project. The Variable and the SEED Collective partnered on the project.

According to Needham, his goal is to promote peace, harmony, respect and happiness as he searches for his perfect world.

A reception for Needham and a one-night-only exhibition of his work will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 at The Variable.
