WTOB 1380
Brings Back the Oldies Baby Boomers were Raised On

By Rick Archer

Today begins a series of articles about music, the songs, the artists, and the memories brought to you by WTOB 1380 A.M. Radio. Let us tell you why your Winston-Salem radio station is bringing back the music of the good old days.

People continue to search for the “fountain of youth,” to turn back the clock to a happier, more carefree time in their lives. They look for a time when life was fun and love was in the air; their first car, first love, first home, first born, and memories of years gone by.

Music is the fountain of youth! WTOB 1380 A.M. radio brings back all the fond memories and great times in Winston-Salem and steams it not only locally, but around the world via the Internet. Pop, Rock, Soul, Motown, Country, Blues, R&B, California Surf and Carolina Shag music is the heartbeat of generations of Carolinians. Today, your grandkids are rockin’ to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, James Brown, the Beach Boys, and the Four Seasons, and countless others, just like
you rocked to in the 50s and 60s. They are learning what a record and a recorder player were, and about how a tiny wrist-held transistor radio became more powerful than the atomic bomb!

Back in the day, A.M. radio was the heartbeat and pulse of the local community. Crazy promotions, contests, giveaways, concerts, dances, and of course, your favorite rapid-fire disc jockey, made A.M. radio the complete package for entertainment. Remember dedicating a song to the girl who wore your class ring or letter jacket? Waiting for that special guy to ask you to dance at the Hi-Fi? Dancing on stage to a band at the Carolina Theatre’s Kiddie Show?

At one time, A.M. radio had more listeners than all of the combined viewers of television! Radio was, and still is, a vital and powerful advertising tool. Today, A.M. radio still serves local communities, not regions of communities, and places like Winston-Salem can claim ownership of WTOB as a source for local information and activities, staffed with people who have a stake in the area. A.M. radio stations across the country, as well as your WTOB, are finding relevance in serving the local community. WTOB has live local announcers from early morning until late at night. WTOB Good Guys are just a phone call away for requests, contests, and to say hey!

WTOB 1380 is a breath of fresh air, putting
listeners and the community first, playing requests, interviewing the artists you know and love, learning how a certain song was recorded, and preserving the history of radio and rock’n’roll music. WTOB is old school and proud of it, as we are proud of our heritage in the Winston-Salem community.

We want your input. In coming months, we’ll highlight artists and musicians who made and performed the music you grew up with. If you have a question about a particular band or want to see a particular topic covered here, please email us at goodguys@wtob1380.com.

We look forward to hearing from you!
