THE CHRONICLE
After collecting donations for more than a week, on Saturday morning the Minsters’ Conference of Winston-Salem and Vicinity (MCWSV)and the City of Winston-Salem shipped more than 1,000 bottles of water, non-perishable food items, diapers, toiletries and dozens of other items to residents in Eastern N.C. who are still recovering from Hurricane Matthew.
MCWSV President Bishop Todd Fulton said he was proud to see the community come together to help those in need. He said, although it will be some time before things get back to normal in many cities in the Eastern portion of the state, it feels good to know that the groups did make a difference.
“We have had a tremendous response from our local churches and our community. I’m just grateful to be a native of Winston-Salem and a part of this wonderful city.”
Council member Denise “D.D.” Adams said, “We want the people in the east to know that Winston-Salem cares. We want them to know that we are here for them.”
During a short interview, Adams mentioned the city will be making other trips to send supplies to those in need. She said, “This is only the beginning.”
