Pictured here is Jolonda Ware of Working America, sharing her own struggles with health insurance after losing the Medicaid, which she received when she had her son, because of a slight raise in income. Behind her are other speakers at the event: Will Cox of Health Care for All NC, local NAACP President Ike Howard and City Council Member Dan Besse.
The Winston-Salem NAACP held a media event in support of Medicaid expansion at the Forsyth County Health Department on Friday, April 8. The Winston-Salem Branch of the NAACP participated in a hearing to get public comments on Medicaid reform that was being held there. North Carolina still refuses to accept federal funds to expand Medicaid to low-income individuals as part of the Affordable Care Act. The reform being planned does not involve expansion.
