For eight weeks – from September through November – participants were encouraged to incorporate 30 minutes of physical activity into their day, five or more days each week, and to log their physical activity minutes. Participants could exercise as on their own or form a Step Up Forsyth! team.
The Mt. Zion team, captained by Elvenia Johnson and the Laymen League, averaged 1,980 minutes of physical activity during the eight week program. In all in 2012, Step Up Forsyth! had 1,035 participants who logged a total of 1,210,469 minutes of physical activity.
Team trophies were also awarded to: Largest Team – Susan’s Happy Hoofers (Kernersville area Weight Watchers group), Largest Organizational Team – Y-Wise (Kernersville YMCA) and Largest School Team – Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Central Office.
In addition to trophies, prizes were awarded at random to participants who completed the program. Prizes included a one-year family membership to the YMCA and 15 $50 Omega Sports gift cards.
