National honor for local BBBS advocate
Local Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer Brett W. Hoge is one of five winners of the seventh annual Invest in Others Community Leadership Award.
The awards are presented by the Invest in Others Charitable Foundation, which was founded in 2006 to encourage and support the philanthropic and volunteer activities of financial advisors in their local communities. The awards recognize financial advisors for their exemplary leadership and commitment to making a difference in their communities. Awards are presented in the following five categories: Community Service Award, Global Community Impact Award, Mentoring Excellence Award, Volunteer Team Award, and Volunteer of the Year Award. Hoge won the mentoring honor.
Hoge, managing director with BB&T’s Scott & Stringfellow, was honored in New York City on Thursday, Sept. 19. Invest in Others honorees and finalists also visited the NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square.
Since 2002, Hoge has been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters, either as a Big Brother, compassionate advocate, committed fundraiser and/or board member. His recognitions include the BBBS Local Agency Big Brother of the Year, the BBBS Local Agency Couple Match of the Year, the Presidential Volunteer Service Lifetime Award, the North Carolina Big Brother of the Year, the John Sherman Jr. Leadership Award from BB&T Scott & Stringfellow, the United Way Volunteer of the Year Award and the BBBS Award from Board of Directors for Ten Years of Fundraising.
Over his 11 years as an active participant with Big Brothers Big Sisters, he has directly generated more than $125,000 from corporate sponsors and individuals, in addition to his own annual donations and mentoring expenses for the organization. He has mentored three different Little Brothers (JP, Alex and Johnny) over the years and continues to stay in touch with all of them.
