NBTF co-chairs to be revealed Monday
The 2013 National Black Theatre Festival season will officially kickoff on Monday (March 11) when officials announce the celebrity co-chairs for this year’s festival.
The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend the announcement, which will be held at noon at the Garden Terrace of the Embassy Suites Hotel (460 North Cherry St.). The celebrity co-chairs are slated to be present for the announcement.
“This year’s co-chairs are universally recognized, admired and respected by peers and audiences alike,” said Gerry Patton, executive director of the North Carolina Black Repertory Company, which stages the NBTF every two years.“Their participation promises to attract a broad-based audience, including people of all ages. They are truly Marvtastic!”
The co-chairs serve as both ambassadors and cheerleaders for the NBTF. Lamman Rucker, of “Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns” and “Why Did I Get Married?” fame, and T’Keyah Crystal Keymah, whose credits include “In Living Color” and “That’s So Raven,” were the 2011 NBTF co-chairs.
NBTF sponsors, Mayor Allen Joines and other city leaders are also slated to be on hand at Monday’s announcement. In addition, organizers say that a “special surprise celebrity performance” will be presented and exciting details about the 2013 NBTF will be announced.
The 2013 NBTF will be held from Monday, July 29 – Saturday, Aug. 3, showcasing hundreds of performances, workshops, seminars and poetry slams.
