NC Superintendent of Public Instruction’s listening tour makes a stop in Winston-Salem
State Superintendent Mo Green during his listening tour at Mount Tabour High School.

N.C. Superintendent of Public Instruction, Mo Green’s “Mo Wants to Know” listening tour, made a stop in Winston-Salem earlier this week. On Monday, Green listened as more than 100 parents, students, and educators gathered at Mount Tabor High School to voice their concerns about public education.
The “Mo Wants to Know” listening sessions are designed to draw insight from stakeholders in public education to draft a comprehensive strategic plan that will include goals, initiatives and accountability measures.
The listening session at Mount Tabor was centered around four questions: What should be celebrated and continued in N.C. Public Schools (NCPS)? What are the challenges and potential solutions to those challenges? What is your bid idea for NCPS? What actions are you/your organization committed to do to enhance NCPS?
Green said it’s important that the thoughts and concerns of all stakeholders are included to ensure needs are met. “The strategic plan we create will advance my vision for every child in North Carolina to achieve educational excellence and for our public schools to be the best in the country,” said Green when discussing the need for a strategic plan.
“For the plan to be effective, it must be driven by the people we serve – from students and teachers to employers and community leaders. I encourage anyone who cares about the future of public education to join us on the ‘Mo Wants to Know’ tour.”
The ‘Mo Wants to Know’ listening tour will continue through early April. Since being sworn in, Green has laid out six pillars that he believes will help NCPS achieve educational excellence: (1) Prepare each student for their next phase of life; (2) Invest in public schools by fully funding public education; (3) Revere public school educators; (4) Enhance parent and community support; (5) Ensure safe, secure learning environments; and (6) Celebrate the good in public education.
