New public art sculpture installed at Senior Services Generations Center

Senior Services is proud to announce the completion of a stunning new public art piece, Blooming Together, that was recently installed outside the entrance of the Williams Adult Day Center at the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness (Generations Center) on the northeast corner of the campus, adjacent to 30th Street. The sculpture, standing 16 feet tall, was created by renowned local artists Duncan Lewis and Derrick Monk and is crafted from brass and steel.
The Blooming Together sculpture’s design draws inspiration from the Generations Center’s logo, beautifully depicting three figures interacting and emphasizes the concept of connection across generations, a key component of the Generations Center’s work. The title of the piece plays off another sculpture, Second Blooming, also sculpted by Duncan Lewis, which is located at the entrance of the Senior Services administrative building, tying the campus together through art.
Lee Covington, president and CEO of Senior Services, shared his thoughts on the artwork, saying, “Blooming Together is also a beautiful representation of the Generation Center’s purpose. It’s about bringing people together, no matter their age, and celebrating shared experiences, which is a critically important part of what happens here.” Duncan Lewis, one of the artists behind the sculpture, expressed his joy in seeing the project come to fruition. “It has been a labor of love, and we hope that people will have their own reactions to it,” Lewis said. “Every person will bring their own interpretation, which is good, and we just hope it’s a positive one.”
Fellow artist Derrick Monk added, “The intergenerational theme is embodied in the way we depict three generations – from grandmother to child, to grandchild, and so on. The petals and botanical elements in the sculpture give it a natural, powerful look. It represents the beauty and strength of generations coming together.”
The sculpture is part of a broader effort to bring art, wellness, and community together at Senior Services. The Generations Center, which opened November 2023, aims to foster creativity, health, and connection among people of all ages and backgrounds. The installation of Blooming Together further reinforces this mission, offering a permanent visual symbol of its commitment to strengthening community bonds across generations.
Covington added, “It really completes the idea of having public art as part of not only the new Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness, but our entire 10-acre campus. This is a gift to the community that we hope will be appreciated by everyone who visits or drives by during the day or night.”
