Patrice Toney’s professional pursuits and volunteer undertakings have all fed her passion for giving back and helping her neighbors.
For years she has given her time freely to organizations like Experiment in Self-Reliance, Hands-On of Northwest North Carolina and her church-home, St. Stephen Episcopal.
Her volunteer efforts shine especially bright at the North Carolina Black Repertory Company and the Winston-Salem Urban League.
The Vice Chair of the Urban League Board, Patrice helped launch the agency’s Young Professionals group, giving the city’s movers and shakers an avenue for networking and community service. Her affiliation with the Black Rep and its National Black Theatre Festival stretches back more than 10 years.
The longtime president of the Black Rep Guild, Patrice was instrumental in the creation of the successful Teen Theatre program, which has already produced a long list of up-and-comers. She has also been tasked with organizing the thousands who volunteer to help the Theatre Festival run smoothly.
Her professional career included a long stint at the Forsyth County Department of Public Health, where she breathed life into POSSE, a sweeping HIV and STD prevention program that has saved lives and lifted stigmas. Now a Forsyth County Budget Analyst, Toney is constantly looking for even more ways to help others and give back.
She gives us all hope that our next generation of leaders are indeed on the right track. For this and so much more, The Chronicle and the community it serves is proud to honor Patrice Toney for her Community Service.
