The Piedmont Wind Symphony (PWS) is thrilled to announce its 35th Anniversary Season, featuring a diverse array of performances that promise to captivate audiences of all ages. From heroic melodies and world premieres to festive holiday concerts and collaborations with renowned artists, this season is set to be a landmark celebration of the organization and the musical landscape of Winston-Salem. 

The season opens with Premiere! on Nov. 9, 7:30 p.m., Centenary United Methodist Church. The evening will offer the world premiere of PWS musician Michael Robinson’s Fanfare 1989, celebrating our lasting impact on the Winston-Salem community. The program also features James Syler’s Bird of Paradise featuring UNCSA faculty Robert Young, saxophonist soloist, and Balmages’ Windows and Mirrors – Symphony for Band. The PWS season schedule includes: 

Holiday Bells, Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m., Centenary United Methodist Church. Experience the magic of the holiday season with the Piedmont Wind Symphony’s holiday pops. This festive concert features a selection of holiday pop favorites, bringing joy and cheer to audiences of all ages. From timeless carols to contemporary holiday hits, the musicians deliver a heartwarming performance that captures the spirit of the season for an enchanting evening of music, community, and celebration.  

Boogie Winter Wonderland! Tuesday, Dec.17, at 7:30 p.m., The Ramkat. Groove into the holiday season with this electrifying evening with funky twists on seasonal favorites. Dance to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “December” and “Boogie Wonderland,” soulful renditions from James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, and Luther Vandross, alongside festive tunes from the Red Light Brass Band and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. This concert is a 35th Anniversary Holiday Event. 

Canadian Brass with the Piedmont Wind Symphony, Thursday, Feb. 15, Wait Chapel, Wake Forest University. PWS celebrates its 35th Season with the incomparable Canadian Brass! This world-famous brass quintet will perform their infamous pieces alongside PWS. Conductor Emeritus Rob Simon will take the stage, joined by alumni who have performed over the past 35 years. It’s a night not to be missed! 

Southern Harmony! The Martha Bassett Show with the Piedmont Wind Symphony,  Saturday, May 31, at 7:30 p.m., Wait Chapel, Wake Forest University. Martha Bassett and her band join forces with PWS for a uniquely engaging program of music from the South. This special concert features an eclectic mix of shape-note hymns, spirited Cajun reels, and the enchanting sounds that have made Bassett’s band a beloved treasure in the Winston-Salem community. Experience a rich tapestry of Southern musical traditions, blending folk, bluegrass, and gospel influences.
