Playhouse to present ‘North Star’
The Stained Glass Playhouse, 4401 Indiana Ave., will present Gloria Bond Clunie’s “North Star” in honor of National Black History Month.

Produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Co., the show is directed by Harold Claytor Jr., who has helmed several Stained Glass Playhouse productions.
Set in North Carolina in the 1960s, “North Star” is the story of “Relia,” an African American girl searching for her place to shine in both society and her personal life. Her joyous innocence was transformed by the rising tensions of the growing Civil Rights Movement.
Relia’s parents are hotly divided between letting her participate in the demonstrations and shielding her from the harsh realities of the battle for freedom.
Relia Taylor is portrayed by Anna Jolly, while the adult version of her, Aurelia, is played by Cree Simpson. Her father, Manson Taylor, is played by Andrew Sheran, and her mother, Kate Taylor, is played by Kathryn Mobley. Other cast members include Jordan White, Esther Rockette, Teresa Wiginton, Demario Armstrong, Tim Howell, Bill Jackson, Mark Walek and Patrick Ferrara.
Since 2002, the February Stained Glass Playhouse performances have saluted Black History Month. Past shows have included “A Raisin in the Sun,” “Blessed Assurance,” “Home,” “Steal Away,” “Mahalia,” “Young, Gifted and Black,” “A Woman Called Truth,” “Miss Evers Boys,” “Fences” and “Crowns.”
“North Star” will be staged Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 8 p.m. and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, 16 and 23.
