“This song brings me joy, and it felt invigorating to go into the studio to create something that can touch people in a meaningful way. I want everyone who hears it to believe that their future can be just as bright as they dream it to be,” said Portia.

Through NC Reentry Innovators for Success, Inc., she supports individuals transitioning back into society, providing critical tools for education, employment, and personal growth. Her work as an author has also garnered significant acclaim, including being awarded Planting People Growing Justice’s 2024 National Book of the Year for her title “There Ought to Be a Law: A Bright Day at the State Capitol.” This book chronicles her experiences working with lawmakers in the Senate and House of Representatives and is part of a series of award-winning titles published through her publishing company, Bright Books, LLC.
