The Winston-Salem Chapter of the Black Panther Party met as a kick off to their 50th year anniversary. The meeting was held at Other Suns in East Winston on Saturday, Oct. 12. The Winston-Salem Chapter of the Black Panther Party will celebrate its 50th Anniversary Monday, Oct. 21-26.
During the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the board unanimously approved a contract with Larry Barron Jr. to provide poetry workshops for students at Parkland Magnet High School.
With budget cuts and teacher shortages, music and arts programs in Forsyth County schools lack the support needed for students. But music classes at Diggs-Latham Elementary School in Winston-Salem received the gift of music through a donation of more than 100 musical instruments and a check for $2,000 during an assembly on Sept. 27.
Dr. Althea Taylor Jones from Kernersville has received a 2019 Pioneer Award from the N.C. Coalition on Aging for her long-time contributions to the field of aging in North Carolina.
