Program earns accreditation
The Rehabilitation Studies program at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) has been awarded accreditation by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE).
CORE is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the accrediting body for both undergraduate programs in rehabilitation and disability studies, as well as graduate programs in rehabilitation counseling. To become accredited, programs must complete an extensive self-study of their curriculum, and the process includes evaluation input from current students, program graduates and employers of program graduates.
“The Rehabilitation Studies program has historically worked on continuous program improvement to ensure our curriculum reflects the needs of our community and the populations we serve,” said Dr. Shawn Ricks, assistant professor and program coordinator. “We are honored by this recognition from the Council on Rehabilitation Education and will continue to work to maintain high standards for our program faculty, curriculum, and students.”
Rehabilitation Studies, a program in the Department of Human Performance and Sport Sciences, is specifically designed for students who will seek employment or a master’s degree in a variety of areas, including substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling, vocational rehabilitation counseling, as well as school, career or guidance counseling.
