The Reynolds American group of companies, employees and their private charitable foundations donated approximately $7.7 million to a wide range of non-profit organizations in 2012.

“The last few years have been extremely challenging for a lot of good people,” said Alan Caldwell, RAI Services Company’s director of corporate and civic engagement.  “That is why our companies, foundations and employees remain committed to supporting the communities where we live and work, both financially and by staying actively involved in helping people in need.”

Reynolds American Inc. and subsidiaries RAI Services Company and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company contributed a combined $1.7 million to non-profit organizations in 2012. The largest contribution was $400,000 to youth-based organizations conducting youth tobacco prevention programs.

In 2012, the Reynolds American Foundation made 433 charitable contributions, including matching grants, totaling $4.1 million. Significant contributions included $1.1 million to the United Way of Forsyth County, $275,000 to the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and $251,000 to the American Red Cross. In addition to the Foundation contributions, Reynolds employees donated $729,977 of their own money to United Way campaigns.

The American Snuff Charitable Trust, which is associated with RAI’s Memphis-based subsidiary, American Snuff Company, LLC, made 73 individual contributions totaling $443,700 in 2012. Santa Fe Natural Tobacco Company, Inc. and its associated Foundation donated a combined $725,753 in 2012.
