The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA) has appointed Cora Fisher as its new curator to continue expanding SECCA’s legacy as a dynamic destination for exploring the best in contemporary art.

“SECCA has a tradition of offering opportunities to some of the best up-and-coming curators to expand their expertise and make a statement about contemporary art through ever-changing exhibitions,” said SECCA Executive Director Mark Leach. “Cora is the perfect addition to our team because of her expertise in the presentation and interpretation of art and her passion behind making contemporary art intelligently accessible to local audiences.”

Fisher’s experience includes working with collections and commissions. She was most recently Assistant Curator and Editor at Norway’s Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (HOK), an art center where she conducted research, selected artworks, and supported exhibition design and installation on a project basis.

A colorful and fluid writer, Fisher penned didactics and web content for exhibitions and co-edited the book “Living Labor.” Fisher shared her writing skills at the Cooper Union’s Center for Writing in New York City, then went on to help people better understand art at Exit Art. There, she crafted compelling narratives and proposals that allowed the organization to secure funding from some of the top foundations in the world. Her recent work also includes research development of the 2013 Venice Biennial and exhibitions for the Hessel Museum of Art at Bard College.

Fisher holds a bachelor’s degree from Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (School of Art) in New York City and a master’s degree from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.
