Seniors find new ‘Life’ at Mt. Zion center
Mt. Zion Senior Life Enrichment Center has been operating under the motto “Fun, Fun and More Fun” for more than 21 years.
The goal of the Center is to provide opportunities for fellowship and create new interests and hobbies for seniors, while stimulating their mental capacities through activities like reading, discussions, game-playing, arts and crafts, spiritual enrichment and field trips.
During the day, participants receive two sound nutritional meals and an afternoon snack. The Center also works with caregivers to ensure participants receive regular check-ups and take their prescribed medications.
Rev. Lee Faye Mack, affectionately called “Mother Mack,” attends the Center on a regular basis.
“What a treat it is to be welcomed with open arms at Mt. Zion Senior Life,” stated the well-known community activist and public servant. “We can take part in discussions and speak our minds freely. This program is a wonderful and beautiful asset to the black community. We can sing and praise the Lord without fear of being told to sit down and be quiet.”
Charlie Brown, who retired from K&W Cafeteria after working for more than 60 years stated, “I like attending Mt. Zion Senior Life because it involves the whole community —no matter who you are, the doors are open. The staff is very professional and will do anything they can to provide quality service.”
Willard Jordan, 92, joined Mt. Zion Senior Life this year. According to his daughter, Dr. Willardean Dula, he was reluctant to attend the Center initially, but now he looks forward to it. Jordan, a former Winston-Salem State University nursing professor, is a deacon at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church and a Navy veteran who served during World War II.
