The Legacy Foundation honors local women during red carpet event
Honorees of the Legacy Foundation for Women who received awards during the Oct. 12 Awards Gala.
The Legacy Foundation for Women held its annual 2019 Legacy Awards Gala in downtown Winston-Salem on Oct. 12 at Embassy Suites. Each year the Legacy Foundation for Women recognizes women of color who are leaving and leading a legacy for the next generation of girls in the areas of Performing Arts/Entertainment, Sports/Athletics, Medicine, Education, Business, Politics, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Community/Religion. The organization strives to empower women and girls of color through award recognition, scholarships and education, resources, and humanitarian efforts.
The 2019 Legacy Awards is a benefit gala that supports the foundation’s initiatives for women and girls of color. This year’s recipients included Nia Franklin (Miss America), Camille Little (WNBA STAR), Evelyn Acree (Mechanics and Farmers Bank), Dr. Chere Gregory (Novant Health), Elder Tembila Covington (Winston-Salem Minister’s Conference), Malishai Woodbury (WSFCS), Denise Adams (Winston-Salem City Council) Dr. Linda McRae (HOPE Counseling Services) and Renita Linville (Forsyth County Superior Clerk of Court). Proceeds from 2019 Legacy Awards go toward minority scholarship recipients in local schools.
The sold-out red carpet event included dinner, entertainment by the All-Female Legacy Band, Legacy Dancers, Theatrical Poetry, an appearance by Mayor Allen Joines, and hosted by its CEO/Founder Minister Alicia. M Bailey.
