Arrests have been made in connection to a shooting on the campus of Carver High School last month. According Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), a 17-year-old and two juveniles have been taken into custody. Here’s what we know; On March 19, two students who attend Carver reported they were fired at while on the school’s baseball field during school hours after an exchange of words with another group of students. No students were physically injured during the incident. It was immediately reported to the school administrative staff and the
FCSO School Resource Officer (SRO), and the FCSO Juvenile Intervention and Investigation Team immediately launched an investigation into the incident. After looking through the evidence and conducting interviews with those involved, FSCO deputies charged two
students who currently attend Carver and one former Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School (WS/FCS) student. Henry-Gomez Velasquez, 17, has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. One juvenile has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a weapon on school property, and discharging a firearm in the city limits. The second juvenile has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. All three suspects have been transported to the Alexander Juvenile Detention Center in Taylorsville, North Carolina.
WS/FCS Superintendent Tricia McManus said she was thankful for the work FCSO. “We are grateful the Forsyth County Sheriff Office was able to bring this case to a resolution,” said McManus in a statement earlier this week. “Principal Maxwell and her team do the hard work every day to keep students safe and secure at Carver High School, in partnership with families, the community and law enforcement. It will take our whole community working together to solve gun violence.”
Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough said they have zero tolerance for those who try to harm students and school staff. “We will continue to work tirelessly around the clock to make sure our schools and our children are safe for those who attend and for those who educate our children. We will have zero tolerance for those who try to harm or hurt our students and staff members. At the end of the day, all of us play a role in the safety of our community because we are better, safer and stronger together,” he said
