Trellis Supportive Care to host day of support for caregivers

Trellis Supportive Care is hosting a day of support for caregivers, free of charge and open to the public.
The program, “Caring for You: A Day of Support for Family Caregivers,” is set for Friday, April 4, from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness in Winston-Salem. This full-day program is both a retreat and educational day for caregivers.
“We understand that caregivers are often unable to attend events such as this, therefore, we are removing that barrier,” shared Jacob Gordon, director of community programming with Trellis Supportive Care. For those responsible for caring for an adult family member, Trellis is arranging respite care in coordination with local partner agencies so that caregivers can attend.
Participants are encouraged to register with other family members who share in providing care. Breakout sessions will include presentations on self-care, stress management, hands-on caregiving skills, and advance care planning. Participants will also enjoy lunch and may take part in art and music therapy.
“We hope this provides an opportunity for people to regroup, rejuvenate, and leave with valuable tips for moving forward as a caregiver,” shared Gordon.
Organizers from Trellis Supportive Care and their partner agencies welcome caregivers from Forsyth and surrounding counties. In addition to Trellis, Atrium Health Memory Counseling, Senior Services Inc., The Shepherd’s Center, Winston-Salem State University, and others will be in attendance to connect caregivers with resources and provide training.
Throughout the day, Trellis volunteers and clinical support staff will support and educate family caregivers of all backgrounds, whether they are already connected with Trellis’ services or not. A catered lunch, snacks, entertainment, resource folders, and a meaningful bag of curated items for caregivers will be provided.
Registration is open until April 4; however, for those requesting respite care, the deadline is Tuesday, March 25.
If you have questions or would like to RSVP, please call LaPorche Quick at 336-408-9217 or email caregiverconfidence@trellissupport.org.
About Trellis Supportive Care
Trellis Supportive Care (formerly Hospice & Palliative CareCenter) was the first hospice in the state of North Carolina. Since 1979, hospice care has been the cornerstone of the organization’s care; however, over the years, new and expanded programs have been introduced. These programs include grief counseling and advance care planning – both free of charge – for anyone in the community, as well as expanded palliative care services designed to meet the needs of patients earlier in the disease process. In 1998 the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home was opened, providing around-the-clock care to patients and families needing short-term inpatient care or respite care.
The Trellis Supportive Care staff is comprised of specially trained professionals who work as a team to help patients and their families live fully and comfortably, with peace of mind – even during life’s most challenging time. To learn more, please visit www.trellissupport.org.
