The Forsyth County Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards recognize and honor volunteers who have made significant contributions to Forsyth County through volunteer service. Created by the Office of the Governor in 1979 as a way to honor the true spirit of volunteerism, the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards are held annually in each of the state’s 100 counties. HandsOn NWNC is the coordinator of this award for Forsyth County.

Crisis Control Ministry is pleased to announce that Valerie George has received the Forsyth County Governor’s Award for Health & Human Service and the President’s Volunteer Service Silver Award. Since 2005, Valerie has been a key volunteer at Crisis Control Ministry, serving to improve the lives of her neighbors. She volunteers in the pharmacy, providing excellent customer service to patients. Valerie enjoys having direct contact with patients, picking up medications and ensuring they are well taken care of. 

Patients are grateful to Valerie for her service to the community. Trish Bennett-Sluss, pharmacy services coordinator, shared, “Valerie’s kindness and giving heart are just two of the things that make her such a great asset to us and make us feel so very blessed to have her as part of our pharmacy.” 

This past year, Valerie took on a new role in the pharmacy. In addition to being a pharmacy tech assistant, she helps train and onboard new volunteers, often coming in on additional volunteer shifts to train new volunteers. 

We are grateful to Valerie for her service and extend congratulations to Valerie for the prestigious recognition of her service.
