W-S has new asst. city manager
City Manager Lee Garrity has promoted Budget and Evaluation Director Ben Rowe to assistant city manager.
Rowe will oversee Budget and Evaluation, Information Systems, Property and Facilities Management, Public Assembly Facilities, capital planning, strategic planning and performance management/benchmarking.
“Mr. Rowe’s experience and education make him an ideal candidate for the position,” Garrity said. “I have challenged him to use data and benchmarking to take our organization to a higher level of performance and accountability.”
Rowe said, “I am excited about this opportunity to serve the city in this role. I look forward to working with our departments on developing innovative ways to manage our performance.”
Rowe, a married father of three, joined the city in 1996 as a budget and evaluation analyst and has served as director since 2012. He has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Wake Forest University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a 2010 graduate of the Public Executive Leadership Academy at the University of North Carolina School of Government. He is a member of the North Carolina Local Government Budget Association, having served as president in 2004-2005. He is also a 2006 graduate of Leadership Winston-Salem.
