Bikes are good for business – and employees.

Following that philosophy has earned Winston-Salem-based Walter Robbs Callahan & Pierce Architects, PA (Walter Robbs) a national honor.

The League of American Bicyclists recognized the firm with a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award for leading America toward a more sustainable future.

With the announcement last week of 91 new BFBs in 29 states and Washington, D.C., Walter Robbs joins a visionary group of more than 600 local businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies across the United States that are transforming the American workplace.
“Businesses like Walter Robbs are leading the way to a healthier and more sustainable future,” said Andy Clarke, president of the League of American Bicyclists. “While helping boost the economy in their communities, Bicycle Friendly Businesses are also investing in a happier and more productive workforce.”

Walter Robbs encourages bicycling as an easy option for transportation and provides amenities to make biking easier. Brian Kubecki, an architect at Walter Robbs and longtime bicycle commuter, says that “working at a company that supports bicycling makes riding in” a convenient and sustainable choice for my daily commute.  Bicycle friendliness at Walter Robbs is most evident to me through the design of our office, which includes shower facilities, convenient in-office bike storage and a connected location to downtown Winston-Salem bike routes.”

The honor now gives Walter Robbs employees and clients access to a variety of free tools and technical assistance from the League to make biking even better.

“When our employees bike, great things happen: we encourage a fun and healthy work culture, become more connected to our community and decrease our carbon foot prints,” according to the company.
Since 1965, Walter Robbs has been a forerunner in educational architecture, a leader in urban design and an innovator in interior architecture across North Carolina.  The firm is a past recipient of the NC American Institute of Architects’ Outstanding Firm Award and a national AIA design award; the only Piedmont Triad firm to have received these peer recognitions.
