The City of Winston-Salem is throwing a birthday party in Corpening Plaza Saturday, May 11 with a free concert, activities, food and merchandise vendors and historical displays.
The Party in the Plaza will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. and will be headlined by Pat “Mother Blues” Cohen, a local favorite who drew a large and enthusiastic audience when she performed at Rock the Block three years ago. Cohen will perform from 6:15 to 8 p.m.

Sharing the stage with Cohen will be jazz vocalist Rhonda Thomas and jazz saxophonist Dee Lucas, who will perform from 4 to 5:45 p.m. Students with the local high schools will kick off the stage program at 3 p.m. with a selection of show tunes drawn from their spring musicals.

The party is timed to coincide with the centennial parade, which is scheduled to conclude at 3 p.m. at Corpening Plaza. Local organizations and agencies have been invited to set up booths with displays about their history, and food and merchandise vendors will be on-site.
