Winston-Salem Writers’ April workshops focus on poetry, young adult novels

Winston-Salem Writers’ spring workshops are coming up. Starting on April 5 with “The Poetry of Place,” followed by “A Writing Journey” on April 26. All workshops are from 10 a.m. to 12. P.m on Zoom. Each workshop is $15 for WSW members and $25 for non-members. The deadline to register is two days before each event.
How much attention do we pay to where we live? What are the places where we feel truly at home? How do they come alive in our imagination, and how can we bring them to life for readers? In “The Poetry of Place” with Barbara P. Greenbaum, we will explore the idea of place as landscapes for our emotional centers by writing poems about locations.
Barbara P. Greenbaum has an MFA in creative writing from the University of Southern Maine, Stonecoast. She taught creative writing in arts at the Capitol Theater for 12 years and served as an adjunct professor at Eastern CT State University. In 2011, she was awarded a Teaching Arts Fellowship from Surdna. Her fiction, poetry and essays have been published in numerous literary publications, both in print and online. Her work can be found at www.barbaragreenbaum.com.
“A Writing Journey” will be a conversational event with author Rioghnach Robinson. There will be plenty of time for Q & A. Rioghnach is the author of seven young adult (YA) and recently signed with an agent for her first adult audience novel. She is also the writer of the WEBTOON Originals series Angel of Death and has written for The Onion.
Rioghnach Robinson was raised in Winston-Salem. During her senior year at R.J. Reynolds High School, she began writing her debut YA novel, “Seven Ways We Lie.” Since then, six of her books have been published, most under the pen name Riley Redgate.
