Worship service to end centennial celebration
Winston-Salem’s four-day centennial celebration will conclude May 12 with an open-air multi-congregational worship service and Moravian love feast at 4 p.m. Sunday in the May Dell on the campus of Salem Academy and College.
Attendees should enter the campus at the intersection of Salem Avenue and Rams Drive and park in the lot of the Robert E. Elberson Fine Arts Center. An entrance for those in need of wheelchair access will be marked further south on Salem Avenue.
Prayers during the service will be offered by Rabbi Mark Strauss-Cohn of Temple Emanuel, Imam Khalid Griggs of the Community Mosque of Winston-Salem, and the Rev. Darla Rakes of Winston-Salem First.
Speakers will include the Rev. Gary Chapman of Calvary Baptist Church and the Rev. David Guthrie, the president of the Provincial Elders’’Conference of the Moravian Church, Southern Province. The Rev. Sam Stevenson, the retired pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, will deliver a short sermon.
The service will feature music by a Moravian Band, the El Buen Pastor Children’s Choir, the Winston-Salem Youth Chorus a cappella group, the Winston-Salem First Gospel Choir and an adult choir pulled from multiple churches in the city.
In recognition of our city’s Moravian roots, the service will include a Moravian love feast – a simple meal consisting of sweet spiced tea and a bun.
