WS/FCS dealing with rising flu cases

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) announced earlier this week that they have seen a significant rise in cases of the flu.
A notice posted on the WS/FCS website advises students to be cautious during the first five days after symptoms appear and only return to school if they have a “fever-free” day without the use of medicine for at least 24 hours. District leaders have also encouraged schools to increase the frequency of cleaning of high touch surfaces and improve ventilation.
According to the North Carolina Department of Human Health Services (NCDHHS), the week of January 25 there were more than 4,000 positive influenza tests. Additionally, 18% of all emergency room visits across the state had symptoms of a respiratory virus; the week prior only 15% had symptoms.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends everyone to do their part to prevent the spread of the flu. Some tips for prevention are:
*Stay up to date with immunizations
*Practice good hygiene
*Take steps for cleaner air
*Avoid close contact with those who are sick
*Stay home when you are sick if possible
*Cover your mouth and nose
*Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth
