WSSU’s Massey signs with CFL
Winston-Salem State’s Jameze Massey has signed with the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Massey is a 5-8, 170 pound punt/kick returner from Monroe. He played two seasons at WSSU after transferring from South Carolina’s Newberry College.
He also played two seasons at Louisburg College, where he earned a spot on the 2009 NJCAA All-American team. He is a 2008 graduate of Monroe High School , where he was a star in both football and in track & field. Massey also played in the South Carolina College All-Star Football Game in March in Greenville, S.C.
Last season, he led the Rams in receiving with 65 catches for 1,324 yards and 15 touchdowns. He averaged 20.4 yards a catch and 94.6 yards per game. Massey returned 15 punts for 222 yards, averaging 14.8 yards a return, and also had 18 kickoff returns, averaging 21.2 yards. He was named first team All-CIAA as a punt returner and made the second team as a kick returner. In his career at WSSU, Massey caught 81 passes for 1,591 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Winnipeg finished third in the CFL’s Eastern Division in 2012, with a 6-12 overall record. Massey will report to a rookie camp later this month. The team’s minicamp is in May, before the preseason camp begins in June.
