The future of local high school basketball will be on full display next week during the 2023 David Lash/Chronicle Tournament. The tournament, featuring some of the best JV (junior varsity) teams in the area, will be held Dec. 27-29 at Carver High School and Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy.

The tournament, which has become a staple in the community during the holiday season, is named after NCHSAA Hall of Fame coach David Lash, who coached at Carver, Atkins and East Forsyth, and was involved with two state football teams and won five state tennis titles. For over 30 years The Lash/Chronicle Tournament has been the place to see the best 9th and 10th graders in the county at one time, with 16 teams vying for titles in two separate divisions. With no clear-cut favorite, this year’s tournament might be the best yet.

First round games in the Lash Division will be held at W-S Prep, 1215 N. Cameron Ave., on Wednesday, Dec. 27. The matchups for the first round are as follows: (No. 1) Reagan vs. (No. 8) East Forsyth at 3 p.m., (No. 4) Mt. First round games in The Chronicle Division will be held at Carver, 3545 Carver School Road, on Wednesday, Dec. 27, and the matchups are as follows: Carver (No.1) will have a first round bye, (No. 4) Lexington vs. (No. 5) W-S Prep at 10:30 a.m., (No 2) Forsyth Country Day vs. (No.7) Glenn) at 12 p.m., (No 3.) North Forsyth vs. (No. 6) College Prep & Leadership Academy at 1:30 p.m.

At the end of the tournament, the most outstanding players in each division will receive the Coach Wynn MVP Trophy. There will also be a three-point contest where each team will have one participant.
