40+ Stage Company to present the musical ‘Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street’
“Sweeney Todd” has become a bloody, worldwide success since being awarded eight Tony’s, (including Best Musical), for its Broadway premiere. This thrilling theatrical treat has simultaneously shocked, awed and delighted audiences around the world.
Featuring several of the most unforgettable characters ever written for the musical theatre and some of the most chilling music ever written for the stage, Stephen Sondheim’s penny dreadful masterpiece is sure to both thrill and delight audiences.
This concert performance is produced by the 40+ Stage Company and will be presented in the Gallery Theater, The Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness, 114 West 30th Street. The show opens on Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. with an additional performance Feb. 1 and a matinee on Feb. 2 at 3 p.m.
There will be an opening night reception with entertainment provided by the CityArts Saxophone Quartet whose members are Lee Covington, Eileen Young, Richard Tolbert and Sara Emery.
The reception will take place on Jan. 31 from 6 – 6:45 p.m. on “Main Street” in the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness. The show begins at 7 p.m. in the Gallery Theatre in the Center.
With stage direction by Mark Pirollo and music direction by Rick Hendricks, this production is sure to be a treat for lovers of musical theatre.
