Gala to Support Proposed Sickle Cell Center
Greensboro-based Gate City Transportation will host its Sickle Cell Benefit Gala for the new Cone Health Sickle Cell Center next month at the N.C. A&T Alumni Foundation Event Center.
Proceeds from the gala will benefit the Sickle Cell Center, which will be based on the hospital’s Wesley Long campus. The center will service adults with the sickle cell disease, providing them with the most effective and comprehensive case management from a group of specialists.
Before the center can be fully-functional, $300,000 must be raised to cover various expenses. Gate City – which for the past 15 years has provided non-emergency wheelchair, ambulatory and respite transportation – is hoping that a successful gala will help the center meet its goal.
“Sickle cell disease is prevalent in today’s society and there are not enough facilities that specialize in treating those with sickle cell,” said Roderick Jessup, president of Gate City Transportation.
The gala will be held Jan. 5 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $30 each and can be purchased online at gatecitybenefitgala.eventbrite.com or by calling 336-691-1091.
