THE CHRONICLE

When Reynolds visited East Forsyth for their JV soccer match, it was the toughest game of the year, according to Demons head coach Tommy Vlachos.

East Forsyth lived up to that billing as they fought Reynolds tooth and nail all game long.

Both teams’ defense was very sound and active as they stopped any offense from either side.  During the first half of play, neither team was able to crack the opposing team’s defense as the first half of play ended 0-0.

Coach Vlachos says his team seemed timid at the beginning of the game but began to open up as the game went on. He said it was nice to be able to “come out of there with a win” especially against such a quality opponent.

“I think we played a really good team and they might be the best team we have played all year, no disrespect to any of the other teams we have played,” said Vlachos.  “I thought we played well in the second half and there were a few times I thought they were going to score because of their good attacking players. Tonight they were able to do enough to get a shutout.”

In the second half, Richard Morga was able to break the 0-0 tie when he scored on a rope from 20 yards out to beat the Eagle goalkeeper.

East Forsyth was not able to score the equalizer and they cranked up the offensive pressure late in the second half.  Head coach Taylor Olive says his team played well and he was happy with their performance.

“We couldn’t keep them from playing the ball over the top. It hurts when you have a team with a really fast forward and you cannot stop them,” Olive said.  “They definitely kept us on our toes. We were not able to find the ball in the right places, and we couldn’t finish today.”

Vlachos says they were lucky to win the game and the goal scored by Morga was a fantastic shot.  He says Morga has been making shots like that all year; they depend on his offensive talents.
