Getting out the quarter-cent vote

The sign, paid for by the Committee for Forsyth Article 46 Sales Tax, promotes the county’s quarter-cent sales tax that’s on the ballot, which will go to cover debt from building a new courthouse, with 40 percent of excess revenues it generates allocated for local public schools. It’s one of numerous signs at the Government Center, which is one of 10 early voting sites now open. On Wednesday, Oct. 17, the first day of early voting, 5,523 votes were cast, elections officials said. This is a large increase from the 1,029 votes cast on the first day in 2014, when there was only one early voting site open.
