The Sargent Gospel-Aires Choir of the Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church of Washington, D.C. will perform at Grace Presbyterian Church, 3901 Carver School Road, on Sunday, Aug.19 at 4 p.m.

This concert is a part of the North Carolina Presbyterian Church Fellowship Tour, which has as its theme, “A 2012 Musical Tribute: An Anthology of Contemporary & Traditional Gospel Music.”

The group is under the direction of Marilyn Etheridge Gross and Gwendolyn Hines Jenifer, and Kenneth Kuhn accompanies the group on the electric bass guitar.

The choir will be singing selections recorded by some of the best-known singers, composers and arrangers in gospel music.

The Gospel-Aires have been blessed to appear with such artists as Shirley Ables, Hezakiah Walker and John P. Kee. The group competed in the Kentucky Fried Chicken Gospel Choir Contest, receiving the fans’ vote of approval. In 1994, they entered and won first prize at the Majic 102.3 Gospelfest, walking away with a $5,000 recording contract. From that blessing came their first CD, “God Did It.”

The members of Grace’s Concert Series Committee are Rudolph V. Boone Sr., Kenneth L. Sullivan Jr., Louyse Tuffin, Kenneth N. Jones, Eloise Lipscom and Shirley Bynum. Rev. Toure’ C. Marshall is the senior pastor of the church.

The concert is free and open to the public.
