Dr. Maya Angelou will be featured on the OWN Network’s “Super Soul Sunday” series on Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 12).

In the first of a special two-part event, Oprah Winfrey will sit down with her beloved mentor and the internationally-acclaimed author. Angelou will talk about her latest book, “Mom & Me & Mom,” in which she writes about her relationship with her mother, Vivian Baxter.

Dr. Angelou exposes intimate stories from her childhood, including how her nurturing, yet fiery, mother challenged her to find strength in the face of adversity. Plus, find out how a few loving words from her mother changed 22-year-old Maya’s life forever.

In the candid conversation, the woman Oprah calls her ‘mother-sister-friend’ also opens up about forgiveness, family and the rich relationship she has shared with Winfrey for more than 25 years.

A longtime resident of Winston-Salem, Angelou is the Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University.

In addition to her writing, Dr. Angelou is also an accomplished dancer, singer, artist, director and activist. Her most notable written works include “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings,” “The Heart of a Woman” and “On the Pulse of Morning.”

The special “Super Soul Sunday” will air at 11 a.m. on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
