Annual Youth Assemblage convenes at Fayetteville State University

The Elizabeth M. Tilley Gleaner Branch #68 and the Mary L. Fair Gleaner Branch #137 traveled to Fayetteville State University and participated in the 44th annual Youth Assemblage held July 11-13. There were over 500 registered participants and the 30th District had 25 girls to attend.

The Mary L. Fair Gleaners participated in competitions and won the following: 1st place Instrumental (11-14) – Emilie McGeachy; 2nd place Art (8-10) – Lauren McKnight; 2nd place Individual Dance (8-10) – Jasmine Davis; 3rd place Individual Dance (15-18) – Madison Murrell; 1st place Group Step – Madison Murrell, Dakota Hunt, Londyn Hunt, Kristin McGeachy, Emilie McGeachy, Quincie McKnight and Makayla Walker; and also the Maggie Strong Award, which is awarded to the Branches with the most participants. 

Gleaner Kristin McGeachy was elected as the State Gleaner Treasurer for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. Both branches received certificates for academic honors for the Honor Roll and Madison Murrell was recognized as a recent high school graduate and received a monetary donation.

The Gleaner Branches are part of the N.C. Youth Department of the Order of the Eastern Star. It was created for girls between the ages of 8 and 18. The aim is to teach good citizenship, respect for oneself and others, the values of charity and benevolence, the virtues of a wholesome life, to help girls develop into well-rounded young ladies, to promote moral and religious conduct, encourage continuing education and development of talents, all while introducing and exposing girls to civic and social events in and around our area and the world.
