A VIP reception for “The Healing Art for Sickle Cell,” a juried exhibition at the African American Atelier in Greensboro, will be held Friday, Feb. 22 from 6-8:30 p.m.

The Atelier is partnering with Cone Health to present the event, which will support the Cone Health Sickle Cell Center slated to open next month.

The reception will provide opportunities for guests to view exceptional, premiere, high quality works of art and underwrite works they choose as gifts to the Sickle Cell Center with charitable contributions to Cone Health. Works of art will range from $300-$1,200. All art acquired through underwriting sponsorships at the exhibit/reception will become part of a permanent art collection for the Cone Health Sickle Cell Center and will be installed in the center and unveiled during the facilities opening. Those who underwrite as sponsors will be permanently identified alongside each work with the artist’s name and title of the piece.

The African American Atelier views this partnership as a rare and creatively unique opportunity that will help garner greater support and bring more attention to a disease that heavily impacts the African American community.

“It is Atelier’s goal to help create an environment at the Sickle Cell Center that is visually comforting and supportive, aesthetically enriching, relaxing and nurturing for the patients that will add to their healing,” said Alma Adams, exhibit curator. Tracey McCain of WFMY-TV will serve as mistress of ceremony for this event. Live entertainment will also be provided. The African American Atelier is located at 200 North Davie St. in the Greensboro Cultural Center.

The Cone Health Sickle Cell Center will be adjacent to Wesley Long Hospital. The center, the first 24-hour, seven-day-a-week comprehensive primary care center in North Carolina and second in the Southeast for adults with the disease, will provide life-changing care in one place for adults and enhance their quality of life.

Those interested in securing invitations to the event should contact the African American Atelier at 336-333-6885.
